The Hack Stop can be used to cut PVC, EMT, or Rigid Metal Conduit (RMC)

1. Adjust for Blade Travel

Make sure to adjust the tool on the blade to the travel of the reciprocating saw. This prevents the tool from hitting the guard during operation.

2. Mark Blade Travel

Mark the travel by putting a marker on the blade against the guard and slowly run the tool so that the marker moves up and down the blade, showing the full range of blade travel.

3. Set Cutting Depth

Set the depth of the blade using the set screws to match the wall thickness of the pipe or conduit you are cutting. Do not over tighten set screws. Do not use a impact wrench or driver to tighten screws

4. Depth Safety Tip

I suggest to set the depth just shy of going through the pipe. This reduces the chance of hitting anything inside. The pipe or conduit should break in two easily even though a small amount of material is still holding it in place.

It is recommended to cut a test piece of pipe or conduit to check the depth of the cut. You can fine-tune the depth to get the desired effect. The deeper the cut, the easier the pipe or conduit will separate.

5. Blade Size and Positioning

The Hack Stop™ is designed for a basic 3/4-inch wide reciprocating saw blade. The Hack Stop is designed to work with 6 inch and longer blades. The Hack Stop XL is designed to work with 8 inch and longer blades. Be sure that any part of the blade not protected by the Hack Stop™ does not cut past your desired depth.

Always keep the face of the Hack Stop™ squarely against the pipe or conduit while cutting to ensure an even cut.

Safety Notes

  • Always unplug or remove the battery before adjusting the Hack Stop™.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves while operating the saw.
  • Inspect the Hack Stop™ and blade before each use for damage.
  • Do not force the saw — let the blade do the cutting.
